October...the month for injuries?

I guess that I have decided that this is Simret's Baby Album...well toddler album now; as I don't think that I am going to get around to doing a traditional album for her (although my moms are probably disappointed in that). Anyway, I thought that it is time to display some of my not-so-proud moments as a parent. Not that I could have prevented these injuries from happening...as that is how we learn to live, by falling and picking ourselves back up. So, here are a couple of pictures of my sweet baby with her first black eye and her first fat lip.

The black eye happened at the beginning of the month when I was breaking in my girlfriend's new yoga studio (she had a special class for her friends the day before it opened). On a side note...I should mention how proud I am of her for following her dreams and opening up her own business...she is a courageous woman...and the yoga studio is welcoming, beautiful and has great energy! So, on to the injury... Lance (Daddy) was, of course, watching her when this tragic even happened (just kidding-he feels horrible about it still). Apparently, she was brushing her teeth with our electric tooth brush (which is one of her favorite things to do) while walking in and out of each room in the upstairs...did I mention that she also had socks on and we have hardwood floors. Well I guess as Lance puts it "I was getting dressed, but watching her, and she tripped and fell and hit her eye on the corner of the table in our room, she had socks on so I think it was slick for her and was brushing her teeth so I don't think she could catch herself?" I guess I returned from yoga 10 minutes after it happened...at this point Lance had already dressed the poor thing's wound and put glasses on her to try to hide the injury? Pretty cleaver...

Injury number 2 happened last week, when we were at the Peterson's house for dinner (the day after our last postplacement...thank whoever you thank, that this did not happen before the postplacement...that would have looked great-a black eye and a fat lip). So, she was playing with the all of the other kids, running around their living area. They have a place in their hard wood floor that is slightly elevated, where the two floor meet. Many kids have tripped over it in the past...but most recover without too much damage. Simret was putting on a beaded necklace and running from one room to the next. Apparently, her hands got caught in the necklace when she was going over the "bump" and she fell...face first! She hit so hard that I first I thought she lost a tooth...but it was just a piece of veggie burger flying out of her mouth. That was by far the most traumatic fall that she has taken...she laid on my chest for about 15 minutes, not crying or moving...I think that it scared her quite a bit. But, she is now almost fully recovered with only a fat lip to show for it. She is also a little extra sensitive when she falls now...often crying when she otherwise would have just picked herself up and moved on?
this picture was taken 3 days after the event...apparently she embarrassed and didn't want me to take a picture of her black eye and fat lip (while drooling)?
